Tor oli viikinkien ukkosenjumala. Tor käytti vasaraansa hallitsemiseen ja oikeuden jakamiseen. Ukkosmyrskyllä Torin uskottiin ajavan pukkien vetämissä vaunuissa pitkin taivaankantta. Vasaran iskuista syntyi ukkosen jyrinä, kipinöistä salamat. Vasaraa esittävästä riipuksesta tuli yleinen Torin symboli, jonka uskottiin sisältävän myös pahalta suojelevia voimia. Tämän riipuksen viikinkiaikainen esikuva on löydetty Laitilasta.
