Commemorative coins
The very first Finnish commemorative coin, 500 Markkaa minted 1951 and 1952, celebrates an epoch-making sports event, the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games. In 1960 it was followed by a 1,000 Markkaa piece in silver commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Finnish currency. Since 1967 the Mint of Finland has supplied collectors with a wide selection of commemorative coins in different denominations. These coins are typically designed by renowned artists.
